Discover "Not By Andy Warhol: Art is for Everyone" at Gallery Stratford
Explore one of the most exciting exhibitions ever hosted at Gallery Stratford. Not By Andy Warhol: Art is for Everyone features an exceptional collection of artwork from the private collection of Salah Bachir, showcasing a wide range of talent from artists such as Kent Monkman, Stephen Andrews, Betty Goodwin, General Idea, Attila Richard Lukacs, Sheila Gregory, and Andrea Bolley, among others.
This exhibit offers an in-depth look at contemporary fine art and celebrity portraiture, with two galleries dedicated to traditional art forms and a third focusing on captivating celebrity portraits. Highlighted works include pieces by celebrated photographers Annie Leibovitz, Christopher Makos, Phil Stern, and George Hurrel, capturing iconic figures like Jamie Lee Curtis, Robert DeNiro, Marlene Dietrich, and James Dean. A unique twist includes portraits of Salah Bachir himself, shot by famed photographer Greg Gorman.
The exhibition title, Not By Andy Warhol, playfully references Warhol's famous "Marilyn Monroe" portraits. However, these are not Warhol's originals. The pieces stem from a collaboration with Sunday B. Morning, Warhol’s Belgian partners who recreated several iconic works like “Campbell Soup Cans” and “Flowers.” In protest of this reproduction, Warhol famously signed the backs with “This is not by me. Andy Warhol.”
Running until October 13, Not By Andy Warhol is a must-see for anyone passionate about art, culture, and visual storytelling. Whether you're an art enthusiast or just curious, this exhibition promises a memorable experience for all.
